About

Career BeginningsProf. Nicholas Titiloye obtained the fellowship certificate of National Post Graduate Medical College of Nigeria in the Faculty of Laboratory Medicine, subspecialty of Anatomical Pathology (FMCPath) in 2008, having gone through the Academic Residency training with thesis in Pathological features of Primary Epithelial Breast Malignancies in an African Cohort. His early career training in immunohistochemistry and TMA analysis in Breast Pathology was supported by Post-Doctoral fellowship Grants from International Union against Cancer (UICC) -ICRETT at St James Institute of Oncology, University of Leeds Teaching Hospital UK in 2007 and 2009 respectively after which he became a life member of association of fellow of UICC. He also benefitted from mentoring in Cancer diagnosis and genetics at the same institute through traveling grants provided by British Division of International Academy of Pathology (BDIAP).He graduated as a Medical Doctor from Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife in 1998, and was admtted to the Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) degree of the prestigious University. Academic and Clinical Contributions at KNUSTHe was employed into the service of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology as a lecturer in 2009 and went through the ranks to a full Professor in 2023. He was attached as Clinical Consultant Pathologist to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) from 2009-2019, after which he proceeded on Sabbatical as Consultant Pathologist to King FAD Hospital, Jizan, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. On return in 2020, he was attached to the University Hospital for Clinical Services. He is the current Head of Department of Pathology of the University and has previously served in the same capacity in 2011-2013, 2015-2017 and 2021 to date. He also functioned as Lead Clinician and Head of KATH Pathology Unit from 2011-2013 and 2015-2017. He is registered and in good standing with Ghana Medical and Dental Council. ResearchHis area of specialization is Anatomical and Molecular Pathology with bias for Breast, Gynaecological and Immune Pathology, an area where in collaboration with various researchers across the globe, he has conducted studies and published many articles to shed light into the complex biological nature of cancers, through routine morphological features, immunohistochemistry and cutting- edge technique of gene sequencing. He has contributed knowledge to the role of racial disparity in cancer genome, the use of digital microscopy, artificial intelligence in cancer diagnosis, role of the immune cells and micro-environment in Cancer progression and Genomic atlas of tumour. He has participated and presented outcome of his research in many international conferences locally and across the globe and has been reviewer to many scientific journals.Professional AffiliationHe has been member of international reputable organizations including United States and Canada Division of International Academy of Pathology (USCAP), British Division of International Academy of Pathology (BDIAP), Pathology Society of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (PATHSOC), American Association of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), West African Division of International Academy of Pathology (WADIAP). He served as a research scholar to National Cancer Institute, USA in 2018, was admitted to the fellowship of International College of Surgeon (Chicago) in 2019, and fellowship of NIH/NCI (USA) in Epidemiology Genetics in 2013.EducatorProfessor Titiloye's teaching duties include student courses in General and Systemic Pathology for Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences and Histopathology Technique for Medical Laboratory Technology. He has participated and successfully supervised Undergraduate and Graduate thesis and has reviewed undergraduate and graduate curricula for the University in the process of developing new programmes.LeadershipProfessor Titiloye's leadership quality facilitated his appointment as head of Pathology Department in 2011 and since then has served multiple tenures and the Department has recorded transformational changes in Teaching, Research and Services to the community. He has served and chaired University committees including the University Sports Board, College of Health Sciences Wellness Coordinating team, Provost Digital Initiative Committee and School of Medicine and Dentistry procurement committee. He has functioned as Part-time lecturer to 4 Ghana Universities where he has assisted in teaching and curricula development.

Research Summary

(inferred from publications by AI)

The researcher has conducted extensive work in global cancer incidence and screening trends, employing population-based studies to understand risk factors among Ghanaian women. Their phytochemistry research explores hormone-related activities within plants, while their BRCA gene mutation studies have linked genetic mutations with breast cancer risk. The researcher's breast cancer treatment studies highlight the importance of circulating estrogen metabolism and molecular markers in patient care. Their work also delves into glycosylation patterns and DNA components in genes relevant to cancer, including contributions from host factors influencing Stromal microenvironment in breast cancer subtypes. Additionally, they have focused on mitochondrial function, circulating tumor DNA detection, endocrine disruption risks, pediocidal host factors in breast cancer, molecular pathways in cervical and prostate cancers, ethnobotanical studies of plants like pseudospondias microcarpa, liver disease diagnosis, and male mouse experiments with moringa. Their comprehensive approach integrates various analytical techniques to advance cancer prevention and diagnosis across multiple domains.
