Michael Adashie is an Artist, a poet, a researcher and lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology-Kumasi, Department of Painting and Sculpture. Born in 1963, Kumasi, he completed his first degree in Fine Art at KNUST. He graduated from KNUST with an MFA degree in Painting. His PhD at KNUST is focused on Ga Symbols through Indegenous botanical for papermking. Since 2005, he has had research intra collaborations within the Departments of KNUST (Renewable Resources, Chemistry,Engineering and Horticulture) and internationally as well as a pedagogical emancipatory teaching interventions along with Dr karî’k?chä seid'ou, Professor Edwin Bodjawah, George Ampratwum and Kwaku Boafo Kissiedu have been instrumental in spearheading the radical new thought of producing art comparable to anywhere in the world regarding art practice. The results of this approach to teaching has led to a posistive resurgence of young Ghanaian contemporary artists, mainly from the Department of Painting and Sculpture on the world stage. The essence of this "intensional subversive" but Emancipatory approach to Art Teaching project with empahsis on practise and exhibition as core tools led by Dr karî’k?chä seid'ou was to was to train our students to become critical thinkers. Who are able to create art relevant to the times we live in using materials sensitive and relevant to their environment. As a Co-initiator of Industrial Attachments and head of Painting workshop, he served as one of the patrons in a trilogy of exhibitions (2017 "Orderly Disorderly", 2016 "Cornfields in Accra" 2015 "the Gown must go to Town") held at the Museum of Science and Technology- Accra. These exhibitions featured emerging contemporary artists/curators such as Jeremiah Quashie, Ibrahim Mahama, Bernard Akoi-Jackson, and established artists like Ablade Glover, Edwin Bodjawah, and Professor El Anatsui (Guest of Honor), Goddy Leye and Selected Students. His recent projects investigate the use of local resources in recycling materials to build machinery for a papermaking making studio contriibuting to critical artistic forms in Contemporary Art in Ghana.
