Kwaku Boafo Kissiedu

Kwaku Boafo Kissiedu is a Senior lecturer at the Department of Painting and Sculpture, where together with other colleagues, have pioneered revolutionary changes in fine art pedagogy, turning out emerging artists who are making waves worldwide. He was the Head of the Department from 2011 to 2013, a period that significantly propelled the popularity of the department worldwide through his wide network of international artists, art educators and art professionals.As the first mentee of Dr. karî'kachä seid’ou, the architect of the silent revolutionary and the ‘Emancipatory Art Teaching Project’, Kissiedu has been working closely with seid’ou for a number of years, leading to significant changes in the appreciation and understanding of fine art at K.N.U.S.T. and indeed culminating into the exciting contemporary art scene in Ghana today.Kissiedu’s research interests include; Post-Colonial Art Education in Ghana, and the Ramifications of the Modernist Hegemony on Ghanaian Contemporary Art Practice. His teaching and practice highlight experimentations and new ways of seeing, making, and showing art. Whiles he still remains an artist in multifaceted ways, his focus now is in the making and supporting of artists, and in innovative leadership in ways in which art can be made and exhibited with sensitivity to political, cultural, historical and technological nuances.  As an ardent art teacher, administrator, organizer and facilitator of art and cultural programs, he has been involved in the making of cutting edge exhibitions and workshops in and outside Ghana. Through his international network, he has also pioneered a number of exchange programmes in his department. Kissiedu is also a co-founder, one of the artistic directors, and the Administrative Coordinator of blaxTARLINES, Kumasi.
