John Boulard Forkuor is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Sociology and Social Work, KNUST; A Junior Fellow of the Pan African Scientific Research Council; and an Adjunct Research Fellow of the Center for Cultural and African Studies, KNUST. He holds A Masters Degree in Social Work from Durham University, UK and a PhD in Sociology from KNUST, Ghana. He teaches undergraduate social work courses including: Techniques of Social Work; Research Methods in Social Work; and Urban Transformation and Social Work Practice. At the Postgraduate Level, He teaches Advanced Qualitative Research methods in Social Work. He supervises the research of both Mphil and PhD Candidates in both Sociology and Social Work. His research focuses on transformation in urban areas and its implication for urban social life. His past research has focused on the urban informal economy, the regulation of the informal economy and the implication of gender for informal economy actors. The urban street as an important space for vulnerable urban actors (street beggars; street chilrdren; street hawkers) has also been a focus of his research. His research interest also includes the provision of social welfare for vulnerable groups in urban areas, including the aged and persons living with intellectual disabilities in urban areas. He is currently an Early Career Researcher on the project: Old parks, new futures: Documenting the uses of open spaces in an African City. A project funded by the British Academy of Arts and Sciences.His publications have appeared in journals hosted by Sage, Taylor and Francis and Springer. Journals like: Journal of Contemporary African Studies; Urban Forum; Urban Review; Sage Open; Gender Studies; Qualitative Social Work; and Journal of Intellectual Disabilities.
