About

Dr. Evelyn Asante-Kwatia is a lecturer at the Department of Pharmacognosy. She holds a PhD in Pharmacognosy and B. Pharm degree from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. Her research interests lie in the discovery of bioactive molecules from indigenous medicinal plants for drug development. Her previous works have established the anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, wound-healing and antimalarial activity of several Ghanaian medicinal plants. Her current research focuses on prospecting medicinal plant for anti-schistosomal and anthelmintic agents. Other aspects of her research focus on the establishment of standard parameters for the quality control of herbal medicines.Evelyn is a DAAD alumnus and a recipient of the KNUST Research Fund. She is a member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana, Society for Medicinal Plants and Natural Products Research, Academia, Social and Research Pharmacist Association of Ghana, Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, (WiSTEMGh, KNUST chapter) and the Organization for Women in Science in Developing Countries (OWSD).

Research Summary

(inferred from publications by AI)

The researcher has conducted extensive work across diverse subfields of pharmacology and entomology. Their research integrates both traditional herbal practices and modern scientific investigations, focusing on themes such as antimalarials, wound healing, bioactive compounds, and their applications in treating parasitic diseases. Key areas include the exploration of ethnobotanical agents from various species, their pharmacological properties, and their efficacy in alleviating conditions like snakebait infestations and malaria, as well as their role in mitigating antimalarial resistance.
