About

Ebenezer J. D. Belford (Dr.rer.nat.) is a Botanist, with a strong background in all aspects of phytology, specializing in plant physiology. He obtained his Doctorate degree from the Technical University of Munich, Weihenstephan, Germany, MSc and BSc (Hons) Botany from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone. During his doctoral research he was trained in aspects of plant stress physiology, enzymology (detoxification enzymes) and xenobiotic metabolism at Helmholtz Zentrum, German Research Centre for Environment and Health, Munich, Germany. His major research interest is in the area of phyto-bioremediation (soil-plant-microbes’ interactions in remediation of contaminated soils). He also has research interest in plant ecological, morphological, anatomical and molecular adaptations; ecosystems, conservation, vegetation analysis, and ethnobotany. He has published in a wide range of areas in plant biology and has supervised more than 100 dissertations and theses.Under the Canadian-African Academic Partnership he has collaborative research with Prof. Sharon Regan of the Department of Biology, Queens University, Kingston, Canada in promoting applied knowledge and management of Bio-Phytoremediation as new biotechnology tool in alleviating environmental stress on a West African Mine Tailings. He also had research collaboration with Prof. Dr. Dr. Peter Schröder, Head of the Research group on “Plant Microbiome”, Department of Microbe-Plant Interactions, Helmholtz Zentrum München. He is a Fellow of Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz Foundation, Member of the Ghana Science Association, Member of the International Association for the Exchange of Student for Technical Experience (IAESTE) and Chairman of the IAESTE African Forum.
