About

Bright Owusu Asante is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness and Extension of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi.  He holds a PhD. Agricultural Economics degree from the University of New England, Australia; an MPhil. Agricultural Economics degree from the University of Ghana, Legon; and a BSc. Agriculture (Agricultural Economics option) degree from KNUST. His teaching and research interest focus on major areas in agricultural economics, agribusiness development, development economics and applied econometrics with special interest in productivity and efficiency analyses, impact evaluation, poverty, agricultural diversification, food security and gender. He is an alumnus of the Gender-Responsive Researchers Equipped for Agriculture Transformation (GREAT) in Africa, an advocacy group for gender-responsive research in Africa.  Before his appointment at KNUST in August, 2020, He had worked for ten (10) years at the CSIR – Crops Research Institute as a Research Scientist and later a Senior Research Scientist, where he worked on several agricultural development projects in Ghana and Africa  with  international collaborations. As an Agricultural Economist, Bright has consulted for a number of local and international organizations including the Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA),  the Skills Development Fund (SDF), Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA), Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), Korea-Africa Food and Agriculture Cooperation Initiative (KAFACI), USAID, The West African Seed Alliance, and Natural Resources Institute (NRI), UK.  Dr. Asante is an Associate Editor for the Ghana Journal of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness (GJAEA) and the Agricultural and Food Science Journal of Ghana (AFSJG). He has authored several refereed articles in reputable local and international journals.
